Oakridge Aeros Major Midget A took their show to Ottawa and entered the South End Hockey Association tournament from March 19 – 21. Fresh off their Walter Gretzky tournament win, their CHL regular season championship and owning an impressive 3-0 record in the playoff round
robin, the Aeros were feeling quite confident going in. This tournament is a House League Select tournament, so the coaches weren’t quite as confident, as the Aeros are not a Select team. But the coaches worries were all for naught as the Aeros won their round robin games 3-0 vs. Gloucester, 5-0 vs. Smith’s Falls and 3-2 (all three Aeros goals scored in the third for the comeback win) vs. Cumberland. In the semi’s, the Aeros came up against a team from the Sandy Hill area of Ottawa, and won a squeaker 3-1, including an empty netter. In the final, the boys came up against an East Ottawa area team who pushed them to the limit, but Oakridge pulled it out 2-0 (including an empty netter) to win the cup. It was truly a fabulous few days for most of our guys who are enjoying their final year in Oakridge hockey. Visiting the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and the Bytown Market was as much a part of the experience as the hockey. Congratulations guys, keep rolling. Our goalie, Evan, was named tournament MVP allowing just 3 goals in 5 games.
