The weekend of Feb 28th the Oakridge Aeros minor novice "A" team travelled to St. Thomas for a tournament. The kids started out slow and managed a 2-2 tie against a Pickering team with a hot goalie. Saturday morning they played a Milton team that was no match for our own hot goalie Nick, who shut the door and led us to a 5-0 victory. With that victory we placed 7th out of 24 teams and moved into the "A" pool. Our third game saw us against a Dorchester team that gave us a great first two periods but our guys prevailed with a 7-2 victory. Off to the semis and we came up against a familiar foe in the SSE Wild. It was a great game but our guys held onto a 4-3 win. Getting to the finals was no easy task and the kids came up against a very skilled Stouffville team. After a slow start and an early 2-0 deficit the kids fought back and tied it up only to lose on a goal late in the game. The final score was 4-3. The kids fought hard and played great. It was a very successful weekend as this was the fourth tournament for the team and the third time to the finals for them, well done guys! It was a great weekend and the kids should be very proud of themselves.

On the weekend of February 6,7, and 8, 2009 , the Oakridge Aeros Minor Pee Wee Tier II hockey team traveled to Oshawa, Ontario for the Annual Oshawa Heritage Hockey Tournament. The first game Friday night was a nail biter with a strong Oakridge start against a determined Markham squad. Unfortunately Markham prevailed 7-4 with an empty netter.
Saturday morning the squad faced a strong Caledon team that had previously beat Markham. The boys played very well with great passing and back checking . The Aeros ended up on the winning side 5-4 with a gutsy defensive finish to preserve the win. The round robin format left Oakridge in a three way tie, with the Aeros placed in the "C" Semi Finals based on a point system.

Oakridge Major Midget A played in the Walter Gretzky Tournament of Friends over the weekend of Jan 9 – 11 and came home with the gold medal and a beautiful banner to hang proudly in Oakridge Arena.
Friday afternoon they played a game but outmatched team from Fergus, winning 4-0. Saturday morning saw them up against a very good Brantford team, they managed to squeeze a win out of that game 3-1. Saturday evening saw another tight game, Oakridge beating Orleans 3-1. In the semi finals Sunday, Oakridge A came up against their arch rivals, Oakridge B. Oakridge B had shut us out earlier in the season, but the planets must have been aligned that day as Oakridge A walloped Oakridge B by a score of 7-1. In the final, late Sunday evening, Oakridge saw action against Point Edward, a team from the Sarnia area that were bigger, tougher and more physical than any team we had ever met. Oakridge also won that game 9-2, but there was no quit in Point Edward, and Oakridge had to be on their game until the final whistle. Oakridge Major Midget A -- Walter Gretzky Tournament of Friends Champions!
Danny Harriss was named tournament MVP and received a beautiful Hockey Canada souvenir stick, signed by Walter himself.
The picture says it all.
Back Row - Mr. Walter Gretzky, Sam, Hunter, Jake, Zack, Anthony, Tyler, Josh, Trevor, Derek, John, Ted, Doug Harron (manager), Mike Rigato (Head Coach),

Oakridge Aeros Minor Atom A team crowned CHAMPIONS at the 2008 Ace Bailey Memorial Tournament!!!! The first game of the weekend at the Ace Bailey Memorial Tournament in Stoney Creek was a hard fought battle against Whitby Wildcats with Oakridge winning 2-0. Not wanting the parents to feel bored at the rink the minor atoms trailed the Guelph Storm 0-2 after 2 periods for their second game but dug deep and won 3-2! After a minor scheduling change that saw us meet the host Stoney Creek Jr. Warriors in game 3, the game was back and for the first period but again the Aeros, led by the Head coach Shayne Thournout and assistants Ben Weir and Bryan Skrypnyk and trainer Paul Graham, pulled away with a 7-3 victory, and a first place finish in their pool to move to the semi finals. The semi finals had us facing the Lorne Park Ojibwa's. With the crazy overtime format, that went on for almost 25 minutes past regulation, was a back and forth contest when the 3rd one on one match up came down to the wire but had with the win for the Aero's send them to the finals against the Oshawa Generals! Their first championship game of the season was a PHYSICAL battle to say the least, as every person that witnessed the game will attest to! With the 2nd period ending with a 1-1 tie the Aeros dug deep and battled with many chances and our trademark posts! The boys battled through a 5 minute man down situation in the last 6 minutes of the game to hold onto their 3-1 victory! Hard work and grit made for some amazing hockey by these fifteen 9 year olds! WAY TO GO BOYS!
