What a great start to the hockey season for the MinorNoviceForestCity team! They participated in the Bob Stark tournament this past weekend and went all the way to the finals. They lost to a very strong Waterloo team that had gone undefeated in the tournament. Oakridge lost their first 2 games on Saturday to Brantford and Waterloo but they did not give up. On Sunday, they came out very strong to beat North London and SSE, who they had not won against in regular season play. On to the finals they went, only to succumb to a defeat against Waterloo. Our team started out 2 months ago with 9 players who came out for try-outs but with some great recruiting and development, retained enough players to put in a team in the ForestCity league. These 7 year olds put their heart and soul on the line to perform extremely well for their first ever tournament.
Many thanks and credit goes out to the coaches, Dave Peach, Bob Caron, and Mark Reeves, for their perseverance, encouragement and instilling confidence in all of these young hockey players.
Team players are Nick, Deklan, Maddy, Drew, Taylor, Marc, Tim, Isaak, Jeffrey, Will, William, Josh, Jack, and Aidan.
Well done kids!
The Oakridge Aeros Minor Bantam FC1 team persevered through some tough competition to win the North London Nationals Early Bird Tournament on October 12, 2008. The team played well, but had a tough time finding the back of the net in the first two games against West London and CreditValley. The turning point came in game three against the North London Nationals. Our team’s skating and team play on the Olympic Pad dominated and we earned a 4-2 win. We met a strong Ottawa Sting team and won 2-1 in a fast paced match in game four. Our win against North broke a 4 point tie in the round robin earning us the opportunity to meet West in the final on the big ice. Circumstances had us down to ten skaters against a full West squad. Once again, team play and cool heads won the day. We were 1-1 going into the third, but out chanced the West team throughout the game. The team fought hard to earn 4 goals in the third and win the Championship game 5-1.
