Oakridge Major Midget A played in the Walter Gretzky Tournament of Friends over the weekend of Jan 9 – 11 and came home with the gold medal and a beautiful banner to hang proudly in Oakridge Arena.
Friday afternoon they played a game but outmatched team from Fergus, winning 4-0. Saturday morning saw them up against a very good Brantford team, they managed to squeeze a win out of that game 3-1. Saturday evening saw another tight game, Oakridge beating Orleans 3-1. In the semi finals Sunday, Oakridge A came up against their arch rivals, Oakridge B. Oakridge B had shut us out earlier in the season, but the planets must have been aligned that day as Oakridge A walloped Oakridge B by a score of 7-1. In the final, late Sunday evening, Oakridge saw action against Point Edward, a team from the Sarnia area that were bigger, tougher and more physical than any team we had ever met. Oakridge also won that game 9-2, but there was no quit in Point Edward, and Oakridge had to be on their game until the final whistle.
