  • All Bench Volunteers require a minimum of Abuse and Harassment certification "Speak Out"
  • Holders of a current Level One Trainers Certificate can be upgraded to Level Two by providing proof of a valid First Aid certification to the Alliance Office in Stratford. After that, as long as the first Aid certification is maintained, the Trainers Certificate never expires ! (meaning you don't have to retake level one every 3 years). If your workplace pays for First Aid training this is a great way to reduce the costs to the Organization and provide the League with better qualified Trainers !!!

Equipment Questions for new players

Q. Are Mouth Guards required ?
A. The Ontario Hockey Alliance does not require Mouth Guards be worn ; however, many Governing Bodies do, meaning it is not unusual to come across a Tournament where mouth guards are mandatory. The wearing of Mouth Guards is highly recommended.

Q. What equipment is required for a new player ?
A. Shin pads, hockey pants, jock, elbow pads, shoulder pads in addition to a neck protector and full face CSA approved Hockey Helmet are required. Equipment should be sized such that the player is fully protected and there are no gaps to prevent injury.

Q
. How long should a players stick be ?
A. A rule of thumb is the stick should be approximately. chin height with skates on. Taping of the stick and variations in length are matters of personal preference.

Hockey Canada Insurance and Sanctioned Events
Oakridge teams are not allowed to participate in non-sanctioned events. Hockey Canada Insurance does not apply and Coaches face a one year suspension if their teams enter such events. The local "
Red Circle" league is not a member of Hockey Canada and therefore we cannot participate in any event organized by that organization.

Do we require fundraising as an organization ?
Absolutely !
Without the additional revenue raised through our Tournaments, special events, year end dance etc. our registration costs would be through the roof ! As it stands we are among the least expensive programs in the province !

** All team fund raising must be approved by the Oakridge Hockey Board - Please submit to your convenor for approval **

How are special requests handled?
Convenors review all special requests (ie. to play for a certain coach or with a particular player etc.) and endeavor to meet as many requests as possible. The CHL assigns division splits (between red and white) and mandates balanced teams with each organization. The CHL requirements, assessment results, competitive issues and the shear number of requests all affect the ability of any Convenor to honour special requests.
