Please note that all Head Coaches must have their coach certifications completed before the new season begins (minimum CS for House League, and DS1 for Forest City). New courses will be available beginning August 2008.

Did you know? If you already have your Coach or Trainers certification, or SPEAKOUT with a non-Alliance organization, such as OMHA, we will pay the $8 transfer fee to move your #’s to the Alliance database. Let the Treasurer know of the transfer request.

Remember: EVERYONE -- whether you are an on-ice or on-bench volunteer -- requires SPEAKOUT, a POLICE Check and a completed Volunteer Form. These must be completed right away so that you can be added to your team’s roster.

For a list of available clinics, go to the Clinic registration section of our web.

Police Checks are a fundamental element of our Organization's abuse, harassment and protection program and are a key component of the Oakridge Aeros Volunteer Screening Policy.

100% compliance is the only acceptable benchmark.

“I Want to Volunteer as a Coach / Assistant Coach / Trainer / or On-Ice-Helper. What must I do?”

Everyone must fill out the following forms, obtain a Police Check from the London Police, and mail all the documents to the attention: “Police Check - Confidential, attn: VP HL, Oakridge Aeros Hockey Association, PO Box 28016, Oakridge RPO, London, ON N6H 5E1”

Step 1: Immediately sign up to take your Hockey Canada “SPEAKOUT” course if you don’t already have it.

This Hockey Canada course is mandatory for all on-ice and on-bench personnel. It is a 4 hour seminar. Once obtained, this certification does NOT expire.

BONUS for you and a “Thank you”: Beginning with the 2007-08 season, the Oakridge Aeros will reimburse you for taking your Coach’s Certification course (either CS or DS1) and / or your Trainers courses as our way to promote the depth of knowledge in the Aeros hockey system. Payment will be made at the rate of 1/3 full cost / season provided you remain on the roster of an Oakridge team each year. Stay active with the Aeros for 3 years and get your full money back! And, if you take your SPEAKOUT course along with any of these certification courses we will also reimburse you for SPEAKOUT. (If you take SPEAKOUT alone, we are unable to reimburse you).

Click on the Clinic Registration section of our website for details of how to register and times available. If there are no GLHA area clinics, go to the Alliance website to find clinics from other associations you can take.

Did You Know !!

  • No Game may proceed with less then 2 carded referees! , Coaches and refs who fail to comply not only face suspension; but, risk the loss of Insurance Coverage in the event of a serious injury. This is a firm Hockey Canada Rule!
  • Helmets are Mandatory for all Coaches whenever they are on the ice without exception Coaches face suspension for failing to comply
  • Due to strict Hockey Canada Insurance guidelines, Parent/Player games are not allowed.
  • Holders of a current Level One Trainers Certificate can be upgraded to Level Two by providing proof of a valid First Aid certification to the Alliance Office in Stratford. After that, as long as the first Aid certification is maintained, the Trainers Certificate never expires! (Meaning you don't have to retake level one every 3 years). If your workplace pays for First Aid training this is a great way to reduce the costs to the Organization and provide the League with better qualified Trainers!!!

Game Sheets

It is the responsibility of the Head Coach of all House League and Forest City teams to place a copy of all exhibition and tournament game sheets in any of the London Arena game sheet boxes.

The League Commissioners collect and register all penalties from these sheets. Failure to do so could result in the Head Coach facing suspension and/or subsequent games being forfeited. Penalties and suspensions carry over from year to year.

·
This would also include the "Provincial Playoffs" if you are in them.
Please verify that all required information has been put on all game sheets. This would include "Date and Location", "Game Number" and "Complete Rosters" including any suspensions that are being served on that game.

·

 Insurance Issues

Hockey Canada Insurance
Oakridge Aeros Hockey Association participants are covered under Hockey Canada Insurance while participating in approved hockey events. i.e.: tryouts, practices, games, playoffs and with an approved travel permit, tournament and exhibition games. You are NOT covered under Hockey Canada Insurance while participating in "3 on 3" tournaments, while playing on most "summer" hockey teams or while participating in some hockey schools/camps. We advise all participants to purchase their own insurance if playing in these events.

Important Information Re: Insurance Coverage
- Must read for all teams traveling out of town for Tournaments or Exhibition Games

Non Hockey Canada Tournaments
**Important** Oakridge teams are not allowed to participate in non-sanctioned events. Hockey Canada Insurance does not apply and Coaches face a one year suspension if their teams enter such events. The local "Red Circle" league (for example) is not a member of Hockey Canada and therefore we cannot participate in any event organized by that organization.

Due to the fact that the Affiliation Agreement with the Junior Knights has expired, for the 2006-2007 hockey season, a Greater London Hockey Association player (LMHA, North London, Oakridge, South/Southeast, West London) may only sign an AP card for teams within their home association.
